Quick Summary
Death means a definitive ending that clears the way for genuine transformation — rarely literal, this card favours releasing what's already over so something new can begin.

A skeletal figure in black armour rides a white horse, a banner bearing a white rose in hand. A king lies fallen before him; a bishop, a child, and a maiden all meet him differently, but none are spared his passing. Beyond them, the sun rises between two towers.

Death is almost never literal in a reading — it represents the end of a chapter that has genuinely run its course: a relationship, a job, an identity, a way of living that no longer fits. Resisting this ending only prolongs a discomfort that release would resolve.

Let go of what has already ended, even if you haven't said goodbye to it yet. Holding on to a finished chapter out of fear or habit only delays the transformation waiting on the other side. What's ending is making direct room for something genuinely new to begin.

Love
A relationship, dynamic, or way of relating to a partner has run its course and is ending, even if that's difficult to accept. This can also mean a profound transformation within an existing relationship rather than its literal end. Either way, resisting the change only prolongs the discomfort of a chapter that's already closed.
Money
A financial chapter — a job, an income source, a way of managing money — is ending to make room for something new. This can feel destabilising, but trying to preserve what's already finished usually costs more than accepting the transition. A genuinely fresh financial start is on the other side of this.
Career
A role, project, or professional identity has reached its natural end, and holding on past that point is costing you more than moving on would. This transformation, though possibly unwelcome at first, opens the door to a version of your career that fits who you're becoming rather than who you were.
“Every ending carries within it the seed of something more beautiful than what came before.”
